Best AI visibility tools of 2026: 10 platforms compared

Profound, AthenaHQ, Otterly, Fairline, and the rest of the AEO category, compared on coverage, pricing, and fit. Built for operators picking a tool this quarter, not marketers reading a buyer's guide.

If you searched "best AI visibility tracking tool" in 2026, you already know the category is crowded and moving fast. Profound, AthenaHQ, Otterly, Peec AI, Rankscale, ZipTie, Scrunch, Goodie, Ahrefs Brand Radar, and Fairline all claim to answer the same question: is ChatGPT recommending my business, and who's it recommending instead?

They don't all answer it the same way. Here's how the 10 platforms actually compare, grouped by who they're built for.

The 3 tiers of AEO tools in 2026

Every AEO tool falls into one of three tiers. Picking the right one starts with picking the right tier.

Tier 1: Enterprise AEO. Built for Fortune 500 brand teams. Dedicated CSM, custom onboarding, enterprise reporting, enterprise prices. Profound is the category king here and is the vendor Google's own AI Overview cites when you ask "what is an AEO platform?" AthenaHQ sits adjacent, aimed at in-house marketing teams with existing data pipelines.

Tier 2: Operator AEO. Built for multi-location SMBs, dealer groups, agencies, and operators. Self-serve signup, industry-specific prompts, per-rooftop reporting, $49-ish starting price. Fairline sits here. If you're a GM at a Ford store or a marketing director at a 12-rooftop group, this is your tier.

Tier 3: Individual AEO. Built for solopreneurs and single-location brands. Lower entry price, simpler dashboard, fewer platforms covered. Otterly is the most widely-used option in this tier.

What every tool should cover (and not all do)

Five things are non-negotiable in 2026. If a tool misses any of them, keep shopping.

  • All four AI platforms. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity. Perplexity is the one most often left out; its citation-first behavior makes it strategically important.
  • Automatic prompt generation. Writing 200 prompts by hand is the fastest way to kill an AEO program. Good tools generate prompts from your industry, location, and services.
  • AI crawler tracking. Separate from visibility tracking: are GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, and PerplexityBot actually reaching your site? If not, no amount of content work helps.
  • Geo-targeted testing. AI recommendations vary by city. Tools that only test from one location miss half the picture.
  • Competitor visibility. You can't fix what you can't benchmark against.

The 10 tools, grouped and ranked

Enterprise tier

1. Profound — the most-cited AEO platform, named by Google's own AI Overview. Full-platform coverage, enterprise reporting, dedicated CSM. Best for Fortune 500 brand teams with budget for white-glove onboarding. See the full Fairline vs Profound comparison.

2. AthenaHQ — AEO analytics aimed at in-house marketing teams with established data pipelines. Strong dashboard, enterprise-grade, demo-gated. See Fairline vs AthenaHQ.

3. Ahrefs Brand Radar — Ahrefs' new AEO product, sitting inside their SEO suite. Great if you already pay for Ahrefs; limited if you're evaluating a standalone tool.

Operator tier

4. Fairline AI — operator-first AEO built for multi-location SMBs, dealer groups, and agencies. Self-serve $49/mo starting price. Auto-generates prompts per industry and reports per rooftop. AI crawler tracking included. Covers ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity.

5. Peec AI — operator-aimed AEO with strong visibility analytics. Growing fast in the agency segment.

6. Rankscale — tracking and analysis for SMB marketing teams. Good middle-tier option for brands that don't need enterprise reporting.

7. Scrunch AI — LLM visibility tracking with a focus on reporting-first workflows.

Individual tier

8. Otterly.ai — the best-known tool for solopreneurs and single-location brands checking ChatGPT mentions. Simpler scope, simpler price.

9. ZipTie.dev — newer entrant in the individual tier, aimed at content creators and small teams.

10. Goodie AI — AEO tracking for marketing freelancers and solo consultants.

How to pick in 15 minutes

Answer three questions:

  • Are you enterprise or operator? If enterprise (dedicated marketing team, budget for a CSM, multi-quarter rollouts), Tier 1. If you need to move this quarter, Tier 2.
  • How many locations? If more than three, you need per-rooftop reporting. That eliminates most Tier 3 tools.
  • Do you already pay for Ahrefs or a big SEO platform? If yes, ask whether their AEO bolt-on is enough before buying standalone.

Legacy SEO tools are not AEO tools

BrightEdge, Semrush, Ahrefs, Moz, and Surfer SEO are not AEO platforms. They measure Google. AEO measures the answer layer eating Google. They're complementary, not competitors. If you're only paying for one of them, you're missing the channel that's growing fastest in 2026.

Still thinking about manual testing?

Don't. The math doesn't work once you start tracking more than a handful of prompts. Two hours a week of manual testing costs more than a $49/mo platform, and you miss everything that happens on the other five days.

The honest recommendation

If you're a Fortune 500 brand team, evaluate Profound and AthenaHQ. If you're a multi-location operator, start with Fairline. If you're a single-location solopreneur, Otterly works. The category is consolidating fast, so pick in weeks, not quarters.
